Converting whole blood results to plasma results
While all blood glucose meters use whole blood to measure glucose, lab equipment uses only the plasma portion of blood. Some meters display blood glucose results as a plasma measurement to make is easier to compare with your lab results. Neither measurement (whole blood or plasma) is more accurate than the other; they are just different methods of measuring the same thing. But because of the different in sample types, you should understand that whole blood test results are about 12 percent lower than plasma test results.
For your convenience, LifeScan provides a converter to easily translate whole blood test results into plasma results and vice versa. To use the converter, determine how your meter or lab equipment is calibrated. Then choose the type of conversion you want to perform.
